CONSERVATION

The circle of natural life includes both birth and death. But the natural passing of an animal is much different than one that disappears due to unnatural threats or risks it is exposed to. Extinction is becoming all too common for many species. Conservationists work to minimize the risks and reduce or eliminate threats so animals don't become extinct, but it is a tough battle.

Every species has a role in our world. Losing even one can cause a chain reaction, disrupting nature's delicate but resilient balance. Conservation is essential to prevent the extinction of species, maintain ecological balance, and secure vital ecosystem services like clean water, air, and pollination.

Every Wild Side walk includes the extinction status of the species featured. Some, unfortunately, are dangerously close to extinction. This Z3 Fundamentals talk highlights important global organizations and initiatives that scientists, conservationists, governments and concerned citizens rely on to identify when mobilization and action is required to protect wildlife and reduce a species' risk of extinction.
