BIOMES

Home. What do you think of when you hear the word ‘home?’ An address? A structure? A community? A city, state or country? Humans’ definition of home is different than that of an animal.

Home to an animal is the habitat they live in. And an animal’s habitat lies within a Biome. An animal’s instinctual goal in its habitat? To survive (find food, water and shelter) and thrive (reproduce). For animals, that usually requires adapting to limited food supplies, extreme weather, predators who want to eat them and diseases they can catch. Biomes are foundational to understanding and appreciating the adaptations animals use to survive and thrive in the habitat they call ‘home.’

This free Z3 Fundamentals talk explores the Earth’s 11 Biomes, providing a picture of the environmental realities animals face based on the habitat they live in. This talk is also a great one for homeschoolers to explore the world's geography through the eyes of animals.
